Hare Krishna, everyone. Hare Krishna. Welcome to this live stream of Chaitanya Academy. So today we'll have an Išta-gošti questions and answers about our most beloved Supreme Lord.
0:35So, many devotees from around the world have sent in very interesting questions.
0:45Okay, so, we'll begin.
1:08N anshas, kuturim goesty, v encara compartir, Radha, kundam, νηagarivaram, does not give an influence with finals, RNs.
2:33First of all, I offer my ṣaṣṭāṅga-daṇḍavat-puṣpāñjali, my heart like flowers, thousands of times at the lotus feet of my holy master, my supremely worshipable spiritual Gurudev,
2:47nitya-līlā-praviṣṭa oṁ viṣṇupāda aṣṭottara-śata śrī-śrīmad bhaktivedānta nārāyaṇa gosvāmī mahārāja.
2:57Secondly, I offer my praṇāma thousands of times at the lotus feet of my Param Gurudev, to Srila Prabhupada, and all of our Sri Rupanuga, Gaudiya, Guru-paramparā.
3:24So, this week, our first question comes from Rai Ramananda Prabhu.
3:34So, he's asking, once you have commented on the verse,
4:33So, Rai Ramananda is saying, that in your class you said, that here the word sukṛti, that someone has sukṛti from their previous life, that actually, that sukṛti, that pious activity was also sadhu-saṅga.
4:59Why is that? Because a Vaiṣṇava is absolutely independent.
5:12As it has been stated by Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī Pāda in Bhakti-sandarbha.
5:29yadṛcchayā, that auspiciousness rises in one's life by the mercy of Bhagavad-bhaktas, pure Vaiṣṇavas, and this association of pure Vaiṣṇavas comes from yadṛcchayā, it is by good fortune, and the cause of that good fortune is parama-svatantra-bhagavad-bhakta, that the devotees themselves are parama-svatantra, supremely independent, they are freely wandering here and there in the world. No one can control them, even they control Kṛṣṇa.
6:45So, going to Rai Ramananda Prabhu's point, when I heard the Siddhānta, I was amazed.
6:58Even Parameśvara, the Supreme Lord, he is not independent.
7:15But the abode of love, the devotee, is independent.
7:30So now he's coming to his point. He said, please kindly explain the meaning and the results of bhakti-unmukhī-sukṛti, that is the sukṛti which turns one towards the path of bhakti, such as prasāda-sevā, honoring prasāda, ekādaśī-vrata, following ekādaśī, tīrtha-yātrā, going to a parikramā, and how this sukṛti can be performed jñāta knowingly or ajñāta unknowingly.
8:45So, can these kinds of sukṛti lead to sādhu-saṅga?
So, this question arises because I have heard that there is a story of Prahlāda Mahārāja.
9:11In his previous life, he was a misbehaved person who had a relationship with a prostitute and because he had a quarrel with her, he was upset, he fasted for the whole night and he was crying in an old broken temple. But that night was the night of Nṛsiṁha-caturdaśī, and that temple was the temple of Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva.
9:37So in his next life, that fallen person became Prahlāda Mahārāja and got the association of Nārada Muni.
10:22So, this is a very fascinating question.
10:27First of all, when we discuss this subject, Bhaktyunmukhi-sukriti, it has been discussed by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, but we don't find this term in earlier writings, say, Jiva Goswami, Srila Rupa Goswami.
11:06That has led some scholars in other lines to say, oh, that actually this concept is something new and really it does not exist.
The reality of Bhakti-unmukhi-sukriti is not real.
11:37Because an activity is either bhakti or it's not bhakti.
Because an activity is either bhakti or it's not bhakti.
11:46So try to understand it very carefully. There are many examples such as the example of Prahlad Maharaj in his previous life.
There are many examples such as the example of Prahlad Maharaj in his previous life.
12:07how unknowingly he observed an angas of bhakti, and then he got a tremendous result, he got the association of Narada, even while he was in the womb of his mother in the next life.
12:39We see examples such as once there was a hawk, and he was injured, and he was caught in the mouth of a dog, and the dog was running, and as the dog was running with a hawk in his mouth, he ran around the temple, so that when the hawk died, he got the benefit of doing mandir parikrama, and he went to Vaikuntha.
13:25So there are many astonishing examples like this in scripture.
13:33So, Srila Jiva Goswami Pad has presented such examples as an illustration of the power, the inconceivable power of even one act of bhakti.
14:02to impress upon us, that bhakti is so powerful, if we'll just touch any of the angas of bhakti, even just once, it will give all siddhi, all perfection.
14:34Mahaprabhu said, the first time you chant, without offense, all your sins are destroyed, and the second time you chant, then you attain Krishna's lotus feet.
14:59So, it should be understood, there are only two stages in bhakti. First, you don't know anything and you touch bhakti, all your sins are destroyed and then immediately you attain Krishna.
15:26But we experience practically in our own life and we see also in the lives of others that the practical situation is not as it seems as it's written in scripture
15:53And because of this, then we have doubt in the power of bhakti, and also doubt in scripture, and it becomes an offense, actually.
Also, we'll have to reconcile it in this way. So, we'll have to reconcile it in this way.
17:19niṣṭha, ruci, asakti... like this, śraddhā, sādhu-saṅga, bhajana-kriyā, anartha-nivṛtti, niṣṭha, ruci, āsakti, bhāva, prema.
17:44But it should be understood that this gradual progression of the stages of bhakti is related to those who have some history of aparadha.
18:11Otherwise, bhakti is so intensively powerful. It would be immediately effective. So, if there are stages in bhakti, this is related only to those who have some history of aparadha.
18:41So those who are saying that there's no such thing as bhakti-unmukhī-sukṛti, we can allow that point of view for those very rare cases where a person has no ill effects in his life from offenses.
19:17But especially in Kali-yuga, practically all the living entities have some history of offenses, so they don't quickly receive the results.
So, for those persons, they will slowly, slowly accumulate sukriti.
19:54If they'll take Mahaprasadam, or follow Ekadashi, or goha-parikrama, unknowingly, still they'll get some benefits.
20:28Sukriti, that means the transcendentally pious activity, makes a samskara impression.
20:44If those activities are done knowingly, then it will make a deeper impression.
20:54And as one has more impressions, then the feeling will come out, I want to associate with an advanced devotee.
21:13And then that person, they will seek out, they will positively seek out higher and higher association.
21:32But the association of the highest types of devotees, the Paramahamsa, even though they will search it out, they will not be able to attain it unless by his causeless mercy and free will that sādhaka who is wandering into the place where they are searching.
Vaishnava.
22:52The mercy coming from the independent Vaishnava, when these two come together, then there is success.
23:24.
23:34Now, there is another case, and that is, let us take the example of Parikshit Maharaj.
23:46When he left his kingdom and came on the bank of the Ganges to fast for seven days, the last seven days of his life. At that time, Shukadeva Goswami came wandering there.
24:16So, Śukadeva Gosvāmī's wanderings are described, yadṛcchayā, according to his independent will.
So, Śukadeva Gosvāmī's wanderings are described, yadṛcchayā, according to his independent will.
24:28But, Śrīmad Bhāgavatam also says, that it was the arrangement of Krishna, that Śukadeva Gosvāmī came there.
24:46Now, what's important to note here is that Kṛṣṇa does not, let's say, he does not interact with the conditioned souls who are under the grip of Māyā, because Kṛṣṇa is only in touch with his Svarūpa-śakti, he only interacts with those living entities in whose heart Svarūpa-śakti, that is, Bhakti, is present.
25:39So, that means that that Parīkṣit Mahārāja has bhakti in his heart and therefore Kṛṣṇa is interested in him and wants to help him. So Kṛṣṇa inspired Śukadeva Gosvāmī, oh go there to Parīkṣit Mahārāja and Śukadeva Gosvāmī, though he's independent, but still on the inspiration of Kṛṣṇa, he came there.
26:08Parīkṣit Mahārāja, he has bhakti in his heart. So Kṛṣṇa shows an interest in him, and he wanted to help him, and that is why Kṛṣṇa inspired Śukadeva Gosvāmī, oh, go to Parīkṣit Mahārāja.
26:42Because Kṛṣṇa will not tell a pure devotee, oh, go to this fallen person here, who is completely in māyā.
26:58Because Kṛṣṇa does not have relationship with the māyā-grasta-jīva, the baddha-jīvas, because Kṛṣṇa is only related to his Svarūpa-śakti.
27:21But if someone has bhakti already, then Kṛṣṇa may inspire a more advanced Vaishnava and tell that Vaishnava, go to him, because Kṛṣṇa is attracted and thinking of that person, because they already have some bhakti.
27:49So, let us now summarize our whole discussion into three categories.
28:24Srila Prabhupada said, nothing, I have created your good fortune.
28:31So that's category one.
28:35The living entities in Maya, he did nothing.
28:47And the Paramasvatantra Bhagavat Bhakta, the supremely independent Vaishnava just goes there to bless them.
29:01So perhaps that person does not advance very far, but he is doing something and making some sukriti gradually.
29:15Because of that sukriti, he thinks, I want to go to the holy dham and find a sadhu. So then he travels to the Holy Dama. So he's looking for a sadhu, but also a sadhu is there wandering by his swairacharita, his own independent characteristics.
So, the first case was only the mercy of the Vaishnava. The second case was a combination of the sukriti of the living entity and the mercy of the Vaishnava.
So, first situation, it was just a sweet voice, only one-sided, second situation, it was two-sided, because one jiva actively seeks sadhu-sanga, thanks to the satsanga, and the sadhu, by her sweet will, makes herself accessible.
30:21Now the third category, like Parikshit Maharaj.
And there is the third category, in which Parikshit Maharaj.
30:28At that time, where he really needed sadhu sangha in the last seven days of his life, Krishna personally inspired Shukadeva Goswami, go there to him.
When he was so privileged, he really needed sadhu sangha, he left seven days to live, then Krishna was invited and asked Shukadeva Goswami to send him to help him.
30:49Because Krishna is involved in the life of Parikshit Maharaj, because Parikshit Maharaj already has bhakti, Krishna is relating with his own sort of shakti.
31:26This cannot be true. That is not my opinion, that is not my opinion, that is not my opinion, because then the fault of Vaisamya, that is partiality, would be present in Krishna, because he would, that would mean he was sending a pure devotee to one condition soul, but not to another. So then Krishna becomes partial, and that is a fault, but faults are not present in Krishna.
32:15But that Krishna is partial towards his bhaktas who already have bhakti, this is not a fault, this is his great attribute.
The fact that Krishna is with preference to his predate, it is not an exception to him, it is not an exception to him, but it is, on the other hand, his dignity, that he responds with love and compassion to those who love him, who serve him.
32:40So Krishna has described this in Bhagavad-gita,
33:44Now, next question.
33:47Dina Shram Prabhu from Astran is asking.
33:50Dina Shram Prabhu
33:52I was listening to your class on Daśamūla-tattva, and there you mentioned that when the Lord is situated in His taṭasthā-śakti, and He is leaving aside His svarūpa-śakti, then He becomes Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, and from Him all the jīvas.
34:29And because these jīvas are not connected to svarūpa-śakti, they are weak.
34:38But in another lecture, you also said that the eternal associates of the Lord are also of the taṭasthā nature.
34:56Could you explain in detail the subject matter of taṭasthā-śakti?
35:05So, this is not a small question, this is a whole class, or several classes.
35:28So, first of all, you should understand that these two statements, the one about the jīvas coming from Viṣṇu, and also the eternal associates being of the taṭasthā-śakti. These are not my statements. The first statement is of Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura in Jaiva-dharma and the second statement is from Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī in Paramātma-sandarbha. So we'll look at those two statements directly.
36:17So, first of all, we'll look at the statement of Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura in Jaiva-dharma, in the chapter on jīva-tattva.
36:31There he said that when Kṛṣṇa establishes Himself in each of His śaktis, then He manifests His own svarūpa according to the nature of that śakti.
37:11When Kṛṣṇa situates Himself in His jīva-śakti, then He manifests His form as Baladeva, and from Baladeva come all the nitya-siddha jīvas, the nitya-mukta pāriṣada jīvas, eternally liberated associates.
37:43When the Supreme Lord is situated in His Māyā-śakti, then He manifests the form of the three puruṣas, Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu and Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu.
38:05So, when the jīvas come from the Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu.
38:18We can say jīvas come from Paramātmā, it is said in Bhakti-sandarbha, Paramātmā-vaibhava, but these three are one and they are all the Paramātmā. Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu is the Paramātmā of the individual jīva, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu is the Paramātmā of the individual universes and Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu is the Paramātmā of the totality of all universes.
38:52Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu.
39:06and individual universe, and what's the third one? The totality of the universes.
39:17Okay, so Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura is saying that these jīvas, who are manifested from the Paramātmā, They are susceptible to the influence of Māyā.
39:40And unless and until they attain the shelter of the Hlādinī-śakti, the internal pleasure potency, by Kṛṣṇa's mercy, they are always defeated by Māyā.
40:04So this presentation of Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura is important, it's very important to understand this, because it is shown that the eternal associates of the Lord are manifested from Baladeva in the spiritual world, and they have the shelter of the svarūpa-śakti there because there's no Māyā in the spiritual world, and the jīvas who are in this world have come from Viṣṇu and He is in the Causal Ocean between the material and spiritual worlds, and therefore the jīvas in this world have not fallen from Goloka-Vṛndāvana or from Vaikuṇṭha; it's very clear.
41:21Now, here's the point where some confusion arises.
Now, here's the point where some confusion arises.
41:34The jivas are called, have manifest from Tatastha Shakti.
Jiva. Both the jivas in the spiritual world, in Vrindavan, who have come from Baladeva, and also the jivas in this world, who have come from Vishnu.
42:02They're both called tatastha, they're both coming from Tatastha Shakti, but that Tatastha Shakti, or is also called Jiva Shakti, is in different places.
No, these jivas, they come from Tatastha Shakti, which is also called Jiva Shakti, but these Shakti are located in different locations, in different places.
42:26So, if you take the word Tatastha Shakti, tatastha means situated on the border. to mean on the border between the material and spiritual worlds, then you'll be surprised and think, how is it possible that the jivas in the spiritual world, the one that just said that could be also called not only Jiva Shakti, but Tatastha Shakti, because they are manifested in the spiritual world, they're not manifest from the borderline between the two. This is the point of contention or confusion.
43:21So, all the jivas have come from Tatastha Shakti, both in the spiritual world and the material world.
44:02So in what sense can someone say that they are tatastha shakti?
Then why can't they say that they are tatastha shakti?
44:13They don't have a tatastha nature.
They don't have a tatastha nature.
44:17The jivas in this world can be here or they can go there. But the jivas in that world, they can never fall down. So they don't have a tatastha nature.
So, in which sense can those liberated souls and eternally liberated souls be called the emanations of Tatastha Shakti? This is the question.
45:33So, Srila Jiva Goswami is explaining this in Anuccheda 47 of Paramatma Sandarbha.
45:40Paramatma Sandarbha, Anuccheda 47, Jiva Goswami
46:27It's very elegantly described here. He's saying, first of all,
The number of Jivas is unlimited, and they are the manifestation of Tatastha Shakti. Jiva, they are anādi, and they are a manifestation of the Tatastha-shakti, Jiva.
47:00So those Tatastha Shakti Jivas are divided into two classes.
And all these Tatastha Shakti Jivas are divided into two classes.
47:11One of them, Bhagavad-unmukha. One of them has been Bhagavad-unmukha, attentive to the service of the Supreme Lord from time with no beginning.
One class of these jivas, they always with attention to God, to his service.
47:33And anādi-ataiva Bhagavat-parānmukha, and the others, they have been averse, their consciousness is turned away, not unmukh, their parānmukh, their consciousness is turned away, they have been indifferent to the service of the Lord from time without beginning.
47:54beginning.
48:10So then, tadīya-jñāna-abhāvāt, tadīya-jñāna-abhāvāt ca, the first group, that is, those who are unmukh, they have always had a knowledge of their relationship with the Lord. But the other group, who are indifferent to the Lord, from time immemorial, they have abhāv, the absence of knowledge of God.
48:55So the first, those who are attentive to the service of the Lord from time without beginning, it is said, prathamo antaranga-shakti-vilāsa-anugṛhītā, they are, the first group are, antaranga-shakti-vilāsa-anugṛhītā, they have received the anugraha, the mercy of the antaranga-shakti, the svarūpa-shakti, internal potency.
49:38That means they received the mercy of the...
49:45They are anugṛhīta. So they are nitya-bhagavat-pārṣada, the eternal associates of the Lord, adikaha, such as Gurudev and others.
50:06So, and Garuda and other eternal associates, they are taṭasthātma-jīvatva-prasiddher, they are famous, and they are, but they are still taṭastha-jīvas.
50:27So why are they called taṭastha?
50:32Rupa Goswami is saying, īśvaratva-koṭāv apraviśat, because taṭastha means situated on the border. They are Jiva Goswami.
50:55Here, situated on the border means they are transcendental, they are eternal. They are full of bliss, but they are not God. In other words, they are, they do not enter into the category of Īśvara.
51:38They are transcendental, they are blissful, and they are eternal, they are in the spiritual world, but they do not enter into the category of Īśvara or Bhagavān.
52:04So they are as great as great can be without entering into the category of Bhagavān. So they are on the edge of that, but they never become Īśvara. So here Jiva Goswami says, īśvaratva-koṭāv apraviśat. Apraviśat means because they did not enter koṭāv in the category of Īśvara.
52:51So, and the other group, they are not antaranga-śakti-vilāsa-anugṛhītā. They have not received the mercy of the internal potency.
53:28And for their doṣa, their defect, their faults of being bhagavat-parāṅmukha, turned away from God. They have come under the control of māyā-śakti and they do not have the shelter of the antaranga-śakti-vilāsa.
54:00So I hope now it's clear that all Jivas in this world and the spiritual world are called taṭastha-jīvas, but it is not because they've all come from a marginal place, it is related to that the Jivas in the spiritual world, they're on the cusp, on the edge of Bhāgavata, but they never enter into it, they can never become Īśvara, but they are so great.
55:01So now our third question is from Sonja, from Sicily. Sonja? Yeah, in Sicily, Italy.
55:14She's asking, is it true that Krishna and his avatars only appear in India or do they appear in other places?
55:27And if so, what is the reason?
He says that Krishna is saying in this verse, it is not true that I only appear in the land of Bharata. Krishna is saying in this verse, I appear according to necessity.
56:14Krishna ka.
56:17Sometimes I appear among the devetas in the heavenly planets like Lord Vamandev.
56:29Sometimes I appear among the animals, of birds and other species.
56:38So don't think that I don't appear among the malicious, the anti-juds, outcasts, those who are outside of Vedic Dharma. Those who are outside of Vedic Dharma.
56:56They also follow some rudimentary religious principles, and when their religion goes down, I also appear.
57:10But my very charming incarnations, like my yuga-avatars, lila-avatars, amsa-avatars, they only appear where there is the Vedic culture of Varnashrama Dharma.
But my incarnations, such as yuga-avatars, lila-avatars, amsa-avatars, they only appear where there is the Vedic culture of Varnashrama Dharma.
57:37And among those who are not following Vedic culture, I appear as my Shaktyavesha-avatara, that means He, the Supreme Lord, empowers some Jiva to inspire faith in the people.
58:14So, then, next question is from Karuna Rasa Devi. Dasi, from Switzerland.
58:24She's saying, oh, Maharaj, should we try to meditate on this verse while we are chanting?
58:34And this was a verse that we mentioned in our class on Gaura Purnima, that it was spoken by Nimai Pandit when he was a young boy to Lakshmi Priya. When she worshipped him on the bank of the Ganga one day. When they first met.
59:13So this verse was spoken, Nimai Pandit was quoting it, but it is spoken by Krishna in Srimad Bhagavatam. To Krishna, to the Vraja-gopis, after he had stolen their clothes when they were bathing in the Yamuna.
1:00:14So that intention of yours is approved by me, and indeed, it must come to pass.
1:00:26So Karuna Rasa Dasi is asking, can we meditate on this verse while chanting?
1:00:34Karuna Rasa Dasi
1:00:43The question here is, who is we?
The question is, who can we meditate on this? Who are we?
1:00:51This is very important.
This is very important.
1:00:53Once some devotees asked Srila Prabhupada, they said, oh Prabhupada, are we really in the spiritual world and just dreaming that we're in this material world? Or are we in this material world, actually?
1:01:24So Srila Prabhupada said, you are in this material world.
1:01:31He cannot answer the question 'we' because He is transcendental, and He is always in the spiritual world. So, we have to be very careful when we pose the question: what should we do? It depends who the we are that we are speaking to.
So this question raises several issues at once.
1:02:20First one is, if you are chanting Hare Krishna, it's better to remember a verse like this of Srimad Bhagavatam than to remember your mundane life and activities.
1:02:44It's definitely better to remember anything about Krishna than to think of Maya.
1:02:53But the real thing is this, Harinam Prabhu is the svatantra, independently powerful.
1:03:09And he is not dependent on what you are thinking or not thinking.
1:03:19One simply has to chant the holy name with a sraddha with faith and avoid the ten types of nama-aparadha.
1:03:44Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, of all the types of bhakti, harinam sankirtan is the best. If you chant without offense, you will get the treasure of Krishna Prem.
Krishna Prem.
1:04:08So, very often we find that devotees in the very immature stage, they don't have faith in the holy name, and they're bored when they're chanting. So they think I should entertain myself by remembering different verses.
1:04:41Because I am doing Mantra Mayupasana.
1:04:49Mantra Mayupasana is a very elevated stage.
1:04:57Once, my Gurudev was in Rupa Sanatana Gaudiya Math. He was sitting on a chair in front of the beautiful painting of Seva Kunj. And a large group of devotees were filling that area and some ishta-gosthi questions and answers were going.
1:05:32So, I was being somewhat at a distance at the back, but Gurudev by force, he was like, Prem Prayojan, come here, and he would make me sit in the front, close to him, and I asked, Gurudev, can you explain something about the difference between mantramayī-upāsanā and svarasīkī-upāsanā?
1:06:14And Gurudev's answer was, oh, it's not appropriate for you to ask me this question in front of the general public.
1:06:29So just see his mood towards even mantramayī-upāsanā, that it's very high and confidential; it is for the advanced Vaishnava.
1:06:54So then, afterwards, in his room, I asked him when no one was there to speak about this.
1:07:14to really do mantramayī-upāsanā until the stage of asakti.
1:07:30But still, we can see in Bhajana-rahasya, there are verses, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has given, which illustrates the kind of prayers and meditation that will descend into one's heart as one is uplifted by the power of Nama-prabhu.
This is a very important point to understand. It's important to understand.
1:08:21In nāmābhāsa we are not kartā, the doer. Nāmābhāsa is kartā, the doer.
Namabhasa, the name of namabhasa, the name of namabhasa, he is in namabhasa, he is in namabhasa. Namabhasa, the name of namabhasa, the name of namabhasa, he is in namabhasa, he is in namabhasa.
1:08:39Otherwise, you can get such an impression. You can pick up Bhajana-rahasya and sit and chant. And you chant and you think of the first verse, the next verse, the next verse. Maybe you're chanting for a few hours, and oh, now I've on the fourth chapter already of Bhajana-rahasya, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, you are kartā, the doer, and you are progressing by your own effort through the various verses, the various meditations of each chapter.
1:09:25So, Bhajana-rahasya is not a paddhati or a guidebook to archan like that, that it's telling you, oh, now do this, now do this, now do this.
1:09:47We should study it, we should hear it, and especially by hearing, saṁskāra will come of the sense of each verse.
1:10:10So you can harināma, from time to time you can stop and offer a prayer or remember a verse. and then again chant.
1:10:31The verses of Bhajana-rahasya? In accordance to your stage, because one chapter is for the bhajana-kriyā, anartha-nivṛtti, another chapter for niṣṭhā, another chapter for ruci, etc.
1:10:58But the main thing is to be completely absorbed in hearing the holy name and surrendering to Krishna in the form of his name.
1:12:29kṛpā-dhāma, some verse will come spontaneously in your heart as a reciprocation with Krishna who is coming to you in a particular mood.
1:12:45So this is alive, real relationship.
1:12:57Don't try to cover it over with the creative imagination.
1:13:20Sometimes, if your mind is wandering, you can stop for a moment and utter some verse glorifying Krishna, Rādhikā, Vṛndāvana, Gurudeva, Mahāprabhu, and again, chant, try to fix your mind.
1:13:50Give up all ahaṅkāra, false ego and call out to Krishna with the sambandha-jñāna, the knowledge of relation given by Gurudeva at the time of dīkṣā.
And you know, in regard to the verse that you have,
1:14:25See Krishna is speaking to the gopīs who had worshipped Kātyāyanī.
1:14:33So they had prayed.
1:14:52Pay my obeisances to you, please make the son of Nanda Mahārāj my husband.
1:15:11So when Krishna said, I know the purpose for which you have worshipped Kātyāyanī, actually, our Rādhikā and Asakisi did not worship Kātyāyanī. They were already married at this time. Those who worshipped Kātyāyanī were unmarried gopīs.
When Krishna said, I know, with what purpose you are, with what purpose you are, with what purpose you are, with Kātyāyanī, then take the knowledge that Rādhikā, Lalitā, Viśākhā, they did not participate in this, they did not worship Kātyāyanī, they were already married to Kātyāyanī. Now those gopīs who worshiped Kātyāyanī are in two
And they don't want to meet with Krishna as their husband. They cannot wait.
1:17:11And they have seen the love of Radhika and others and they want to love following in their footsteps.
They saw how Radhika really loved Krishna and others, they just wanted to follow the example of Radhika.
1:17:33The word Devi can be connected to the word Patim on the next line.
1:17:53So then it becomes, O, Katyayani Devi, make Krishna my Devi Pati.
1:18:08So just as someone who accepts is called grahi, just like Krishna is called bhava-grahi Janardana, he accepts your mood. So the div-dhatu means to play, so Devi can mean either, it can be an address to Devi, Katyayani, female in the vocative case, or it can be Devi, one who, a male person who plays.
1:19:02So now it becomes, Oh, Katyayani, make Krishna my Devi Pati. That means, I don't want him to be my husband, but let him be my play husband.
1:19:17We'll just play like that.
1:19:30So here Devi Pati means, upapati, not pati, husband, but upapati, my paramolava.
1:19:45So, when Krishna said to them,
1:19:55Oh, I know the purpose for which you perform this worship of Katyayani. To those who wanted to become his wives, then he understood, oh, you want me to be your husband. But for those who wanted to become his paramours in the Parakiya rasa, then they want him to be upapati, then he says, I know your desires.
1:20:23So, this is why Krishna doesn't say, you worship me to get me as your husband, so I'll be your husband. All he says is, I know the desires, the intentions with which you did this, Vrata. So then, so Krishna's reply remains ambiguous as an answer to both those who want him as pati and upapati.
1:21:05So now, next question, it is from Navita from Bolivia. She said, why is it that in Navadvipa-shatakam, Srila Prabodhananda Saraswati says that he will see the smiling face of Sri Radha in Simanta Dvipa?
Why is it that in Navadvipa-shatakam, Srila Prabodhananda Saraswati says that he will see the smiling face of Sri Radha in Simanta Dvipa?
1:21:35So, does that mean, that in each island one is granted a specific realization?
1:21:49So kindly elaborate on this subject.
1:21:53So, first of all, Prabodhananda Saraswati does not say that he will see the smiling face of Radha. It's not exactly like that.
1:22:09but rather, he's speaking a general glorification of Simanta Dvipa.
1:22:14дорожка перевода · текст английскийpa facto, on prosto proslavlayaet samu Simantadvipu, ostrov Simantadvipu.
1:22:18how powerful is the mercy of this place, the sthana-prabhava, the influence of the place.
1:22:24proslavlayaet silu этого места, sthana-prabhava.
1:22:28He says that if someone is very devoted to the lotus feet of Radhika's beloved Krishna
He says that if someone for his entire life very carefully follows all the principles of Dharma and the principles of bhakti If a person, that person also serves the lotus feet of Vaishnava, and if they rise up to the highest point of renunciation,
1:23:29And if their hearts are also plunged in the nectar of divine love.
1:23:41But still, even for such qualified persons, the merciful glance of Radharani is very far away.
1:24:02So how rare and valuable is that merciful glance of Radhika?
1:24:15But that very glance of Śrīmatī Rādhikā, which even a highly qualified person cannot receive, is very quickly and easily found in Sīmantadvīpa. Sīmantadvīpa-kī jaya.
Now, what this vision, a difficult vision, a vision of Rādhikā, which is not even available to such a human beings, with ease, you can easily obtain this vision on Sīmantadvīpa. So, it is not that Śrīla Prabhupāda, and Śrīla Sarasvatī Ṭhākura are saying, you get the glance of
1:24:51Radhika in Sīmantadvīpa, but not in another island. But rather, he's just speaking in a general way about the power of that place.
1:25:14So we can give some examples. For example, in Ṛtudvīpa, there in the village which is called Kobhala, that is non-different from Śyāmakuṇḍa and Rādhākuṇḍa.
Rādhākuṇḍa.
1:25:35So a very fortunate Vaishnava may have the merciful glance of Radhika in Ṛtudvīpa.
1:25:47Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura describes how, when he was wandering in Rudradvīpa, then he saw the svarūpa of the Dhāma, and it was dear Samir, and the Rāsa-sthalī, and he, in the form of Kamala Mañjarī, entered into the service of kuñja-sevā of Rādhā Kṛṣṇa there, in Rudradvīpa.
And you know that Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura's Bhajan Kutir was in Svananda-sukhada-kuñja in Godrumadvīpa.
1:26:35So, in Godrumadvīpa, there is, one will see the svarūpa of the Dhāma as Nandagrāma and Varṣāṇā.
1:27:11So just as, oh, halfway between Yāvat and Nandagrāma, there's a place called Terakadamba, where Rūpa Goswāmī used to do bhajan, so Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, being the follower of Rūpa Goswāmī, is doing his bhajan in Godrumadvīpa, very near to the place of Nandagrāma, in Svananda-sukhada-kuñja, That place of bhajana, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, is non-different from Terakadamba. So just as Rūpa Goswāmī is doing bhajan in Terakadamba in Braja, then his follower, Rūpānuga-vara, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, is doing bhajan in the place which is non-different from Terakadamba in Godrumadvīpa.
1:28:07So, and now Navita-didi is saying, does it mean that in each island one will gain some specific realization? Yes, this principle is true.
1:28:34So, just as all the avatars are present in the body of Śrī Kṛṣṇa when he appears in this world, all the avatars are present in the body of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. And similarly, because Kṛṣṇa's dhāma is non-different from him, all the holy places are present in Kṛṣṇa's dhāma, Vṛndāvana, and all the holy places are also present in Navadvīpa-dhāma.
1:29:23So, for example, in Sīmantadvīpa, there is a Jagannātha temple in Saradhanga, and that place is non-different from Jagannātha-purī.
Sīmantadvīpe, it was a temple of the Lord Jagannātha, where we went to this place, Saradhanga, as well, there is a manifestation of Jagannātha-purī in Navadvīpa.
1:29:42If you go to Madhyadvīpa, there you can find the place which is non-different from Kurukṣetra and also Puṣkara.
1:29:56So, the various holy places are all present somewhere in Navadvīpa-dhāma.
1:30:05And one may realize them.
1:30:12But, we want to be one-pointed in the service of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. So we want to realize how on each island the places of Braja-maṇḍala are present.
1:30:28Now, in Braja-maṇḍala, if you have done the Braja-maṇḍala program, you'll be somewhat familiar with the location. Nandagrāma is here, Varṣāṇā is here, Yāvat is here, Govardhana is here, Uddhava-kuṇḍa is there, Prema-sarovara is there, you know the places, but when you come to Navadvīpa-dhāma, all the places are there, but they're in different locations relative to each other.
The sequence has been changed.
1:31:32So, Śrīla Gurudeva said a very beautiful thing, explaining this. He said, Rūpa Goswāmī has described, that prema is not straightforward, but very crooked, it moves in a crooked way, like the movements of a snake.
1:32:05So, in the same way, when Navadvīpa is manifested, sorry, when Braja-maṇḍala is manifested in the form of Navadvīpa, due to the overflowing of prema, it becomes crooked. So, all the places are there, but they're in a different sequence.
1:32:32And Srila Bhaktisiddhanta said, one should realize that the difference of the sequence and by experiencing the different sequence in Navadvip, it will give one some more profound insights into the nature of Vraja-prema. It is not an arbitrary rearrangement.
1:33:23So, there are a number of questions this week on the glories of Navadvipa-dhama, so we're going to go through more of these questions.
1:33:37So, the next question is from Madhu Mangala Das Prabhu. from Switzerland.
1:33:44Madhu Mangala Das Prabhu
1:33:48He said, in your Gaurapurnima lecture, you mentioned that Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu relishes in the Nitya-navadvipa-dhama, the Madanakhya-mahabhava mood of Radhika.
Madanakhya-mahabhava mood of Radhika.
1:34:16дорожка перевода · текст английскийnaivusho, naivusho, naivusho, praivusho, praivusho, mati Radhiki.
1:34:20But in the Prakata-lila, when he comes here, he relishes that mood in Navadvipa only inside. I didn't say only inside, but it's not always manifested daily like it is in the Nitya-lila.
But when he comes to Vrindavan, he is only inside. I haven't said that he is only inside, but most of the time he is hiding the condition of his Vrindavana...
1:34:53And Madhu Mangala is saying, and you also said, that you heard from your guru-pada-padma, that if you're not worshiping the son of Sachi, Gaurahari, in Navadvipa-dhama, who is relishing Madanakhya-mahabhava, then you're not actually worshiping Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
And also Madhu Mangala continues, that you said, that you heard from your teacher, that if the devotee does not worship Sachinandana Gaura Hari in his Navadvipa-dhama state of the Madanakhya-mahabhava, then you do not know who Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is.
1:35:31So can you please clarify this point and explain more how should I understand this, so that I can worship Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu?
1:35:48So, and Madhavi Dasi, from Rostov, she's also asking the same question. Madhavi Dasi from Rostov, she said, oh Gurudev, I am not sure if this question is appropriate for a public ishtagosti.
1:36:16I am somewhat confused, but this question is inspired by your recent hari-katha on Gaurapurnima.
Gaurapurnima.
1:36:31In that katha you explained that the Navadvipa-lila of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is higher than the Jagannatha Puri lila.
1:36:46and that you, Gurudev said, unless one worships Mahaprabhu, as Sachinandana Gaurahari in Navadvipa, relishing Madanakhya-mahabhava v Shimati Radhika, then that person is not worshiping actually Mahaprabhu, but some prakasha, some expansion.
1:37:56So, Sid, I am confused, because when I remember my Gaura-gayatri, Gaura Mantra and Gaura Gayatri, then I think of Mahaprabhu as a sannyasi.
1:38:15So should we just think of Chaitanya Gaurahari in Navadvipa-dhama, performing his Harinama-sankirtana pastimes?
1:38:34So you can see that in the question of Madhu Mangala Prabhu and the question of Madhavi Dasi, some part of it is exactly the same and there are some extra parts as well. So we'll try to address them.
1:38:52So, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Thakura has given a verse in Bhajan-rahasya, in the Archana-paddhati at the end of Bhajan-rahasya, for meditation, before remembering the, before doing the puja of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and remembering his glories. Bhajan-rahasya.
1:39:27And it is not a meditation on Mahaprabhu's sannyasa form. So the sannyasa form of Mahaprabhu is not the form of our ishtadeva.
1:39:48So devotees who are worshiping Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, they should all know this verse, because you have to say it every day before your puja of Mahaprabhu.
1:40:24I worship, I serve that Mahaprabhu whose long curling hair is tied upon his head with a string of pearls.
1:40:51If you have darshana of my Vishvambhara-mishra, my deity of Mahaprabhu, you see he is decorated with the pearls wrapped around his tied up hair, exactly according to the mantra.
1:41:17His beautiful face is smiling and shining like the moon.
1:41:27His body is made with chandan and aguru.
1:41:34And he is adorned with wonderful clothing and garments and ornaments.
1:41:37And on him великолепные одежды и украшения.
1:41:41Nritya veisha rasanu muda, he's relishing the pleasure of rasa being absorbed in dancing.
1:41:53And his effulgent veisha, his whole attire from head to toe is more attractive than Cupid.
1:42:07And he's emanating a beautiful golden radiation.
Mahaprabhu.
1:42:15And as he's dancing, he's surrounded by his very intimate associates, all serving him in his Sankirtan-lila.
1:42:21And he's dancing, находясь in his surroundings of his most close associates.
1:42:26So this is the Dhyan mantra for Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
It's mantra, meditation, meditation, meditation, Dhyana mantra for Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
1:42:33Now, why we worship Mahaprabhu in Navadvip, who is absorbed in the Radhika's bhav, Madhanakya Mahabhav?
1:42:57So first I want to say, that he said, Radhya Meiva Yasada, Madhanakya Mahabhav is always in Radhika, but that does not mean that it's manifested every moment.
1:43:13Oh, she may be in separation, in Yavata, in her mother-in-law's house.
Yavata.
1:43:27So, Madhanakya Mahabhava is always in Radhika, it's not always manifest, because it only manifests at the time of yogh meeting, not at the time of vi-yogh.
1:43:35separation.
1:43:48So similarly, our Vishrambhava Mishra, Satchinandhan Gauri, the Madhanbhava is always in him, but it's not always manifested.
1:44:05Now, I want to come to the mystery of Navadvipa and Puri.
Navadvipa.
1:44:20Just as, Sri Krishna, when he appears to this world, all the avatars enter into him.
1:44:32And see, Krishna appears to relish Rasa, but he also kills demons. It should be understood that Krishna does not kill the demons, but Vishnu within Krishna kills the demons.
1:44:55So in the same way, when Mahaprabhu appears in this world, all the avatars enter into him.
1:45:07So sometimes Mahaprabhu will lead a revolution against Chankazi.
1:45:21But this is not Mahaprabhu, Mahaprabhu came here to relish prema rasa nirajas, to realize, fulfill his three types of greed related to relishing Radhika's prema. For himself.
It's not the real Mahaprabhu, who came to taste prema rasa nirajas, that's the love of Radhika Krishna.
1:45:42It's Kamsa Maharaja, sorry, the Chankazi is the incarnation of Kamsa Maharaja.
Chankazi is the incarnation of Kamsa Maharaja in Lila.
1:45:49So, that is not Mahaprabhu, who is delivering the Chankazhi, that is a Gora Narayan inside him.
1:46:09Also, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu defeats Keshav Kashmiri.
Keshav Kashmiri.
1:46:17He also delivers Jagai and Madhai.
1:46:19дал освобождение Jagai и Madhai.
1:46:22But Jagai and Madhai are Vaikuntha-parshada, associates of Jaya and Vijaya.
Vaikuntha.
1:46:31So all these pastimes are performed by the various amsha and kala, expansions and expansions of expansions within the form of Mahaprabhu during his prakata-lila.
1:46:52Now, if we want to understand Mahaprabhu's lila deeply, we'll have to, because he's coming in Radha-bhava, we'll have to understand more about Radha-tattva.
1:47:13So, in the Sanat-kumara Samhita, there, Lord Sadashiva has explained that there are three aspects of Shrimati Radhika.
Shrimati Radhiki.
1:47:50So, there are three features of Radhika, they are called Kirtidaputri, the daughter of Kirtida.
Kirtida.
1:48:04Then, there is Viyogini and Samyogini Radha.
1:48:08Также есть Viyogini Radha и Samyogini Radha.
1:48:12So, Kirtidaputri, that is the original form of Radhika.
Kirtida.
1:48:21Now, she thinks, oh, my Krishna, he never leaves Vrindavan.
Vrindavan.
Vrindavan.
1:48:47Chaitanya Mahaprabhu himself taught this verse to Rupa Goswami.
1:48:54So the question comes, in Srimad-bhagavatam, we see the pastime that Krishna goes to Mathura, and Radharani is left behind, and she's weeping, and in the madness of love, talking to the bumblebee.
1:49:20So if Shrimati Radhika, the daughter of Kirtida-mayi, has the abhimana, 'my Krishna never leaves', then who is this person who is weeping and talking to the bumblebee?
1:49:46So that is Radhika's prakasha expansion called Viyogini Radha. Viyogini means separated Radha.
1:49:54Prakasha Radha, Viyogini Radha, Radha в разлуке, it's a проявление Radha.
1:50:01She's also called Bama.
1:50:05Then a question comes, if Krishna never leaves Vrindavan and Radhika never leaves Vrindavan, Then, who was that Radhika, who went to meet with Krishna at Kurukshetra, at the time of the solar eclipse?
1:50:30So that is the prakasha of Radharani called Samyogini Radha, or Kama, who's desiring to meet with Krishna, so she goes to Kurukshetra.
1:50:48So, now we understand that Radhika has her original form that never leaves Vrindavan, her form that's still in Vrindavan, but Krishna has left her, Viyogini, and her form that goes to Kurukshetra, Samyogini. And so now we have some structure by which we can interpret Gaura-lila, because Gaura is in Radhika's mood, but which Radhika's mood?
1:51:36So, when Mahaprabhu is in Jagannatha Puri, then is Krishna in Radha Bhava, but in the Bhava Viyogini Radha.
Viyogini Radha.
1:52:04But, sometimes, in Puri, there is a Rathayatra festival. So, when Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is dancing at the Rathayatra festival, now he's in the mood of Samyogini, the Radharani who went to Kurukshetra to meet with Krishna.
1:52:28Now, Madanakya Mahabhava only manifests in meeting, so that Madanbhava is not in Viyogini Radha.
Viyogini Radha.
1:52:52And Madanakya Mahabhava is not present in Samyogini, that Radha who goes to Kurukshetra, sorry, it's not manifest there, why? Because even though they are meeting, but still the Madanakya Mahabhava does not manifest, and I'll explain why now.
1:53:25Because in rasa there are five components, the rasa samagri, the five ingredients.
1:53:36And one of them is the vibhava.
1:53:44So an aspect of vibhava is udipana, those things which stimulate the mood.
Which inflame the mood.
1:53:58Deep is a flame.
1:54:01And ut, ut means up.
1:54:04So uddīpana, that which inflames vibhava, makes the flame of braja rise up.
1:54:15So, in Kurukshetra, even though Krishna is there, even though Radhika is there, but the uddīpana, the stimulation of the beauty of the forest of Vrindavan is not present.
1:55:00Līlā, vilāsa, udīpakāmbani, Srila Bhakti Vinoda Thakur says, oh dear sāmīra, the yamunātaṭa, the bank of Radhakund, the birds, the creepers, the taru and latā, the creepers and trees of Vrindavan, these are all uddīpana, that stimulates the beautiful pastimes of Radha and Krishna.
1:55:41So, Oh, I can never leave these uddīpana of Vrindavan. In fact, to give up these uddīpana would be the same as giving up my prāṇa.
And Bhakti Vinoda Thakur goes, I will never die with these uddīpana. What a marvelous bhāva, Srila Bhakti Vinoda Thakur has expressed.
1:56:14So at Kurukshetra, Radhika said, O Krishna, I am the same Radhika, you are the same Krishna, and this happiness in a meeting, but there is not one drop of the nectar that we relished in Vrindavan. Why? Because we are in Kurukshetra, and the uddīpana of Vrindavan is not present.
1:57:01So why do we glorify the Ratha-yatra festival and the Jagannatha-puri lila?
Why do we glorify the Ratha-yatra festival and the Jagannatha-puri lila?
1:57:13Because in these līlās there's a great hankering for Vrindavan līlā, for Braja-maṇḍala līlā.
Because in these līlās there's a great hankering for Vrindavan līlā, for Vrindavan līlā.
1:57:29So, just as Mahaprabhu is in the mood of Samyogini Radha during Ratha-yatra, just as Mahaprabhu is in the mood of Viyogini Radha in the Gambhira and other Puri līlās, so similarly, Mahaprabhu in Navadvīpa-dhāma is in the mood of Kīrtidā-putrī.
1:58:11And this is why we only worship Radha-Krishna in Vrindavan.
1:58:18When you remember Krishna, you should not think, "Oh, I am living in whichever country, in America, and Krishna has come here"; you should think where Krishna is, that is Vrindavan.
If we think about Krishna, we think about Krishna, we just think about Vrindavan.
1:58:47You know, devotees who are very junior and immature, they always want to involve Krishna in their agenda, instead of becoming involved in Krishna's agenda.
1:59:24So, those who are in Raganuga-bhakti, and those who are in Vaidhi-bhakti, but they want to enter into Raganuga-bhakti, they don't even think, "Oh, Krishna is in the lotus of my heart."
This is unfavorable.
1:59:50Mahaprabhu said, "Don't take Krishna out of Vrindavan."
2:00:27So in the same way, we only remember Radha-Krishna in Vrindavan, in the same way, our Ishtadeva, we serve Saccidananda Gaurahari in Navadvipa-dhama, absorbed in the mood of Kirtida-putri, original Radha.
Kirtida-putri, Radha.
2:01:05And whenever we hear or chant or remember Mahaprabhu, in the mood of Samyogini or Viyogini, that is only the hankering to be in the lila of Kirtida-putri.
2:01:52Vrindavan, Vrindavan, pyari lila ki jai, varasani-wali ki jai, jai, jai, jai, sri radhe-shyam.
